Now I’m just going to start by saying you cannot claim your new suit and I often see clients trying to stick in a £150 Barbour receipt and pretend they don’t know how it got there.

For workwear to be a business expense and therefore reduce your tax it must be:

1) Specialist clothing

This can be:

  • Uniforms – such as t-shirts etc
  • Safety clothing – steel toe caps etc
  • Costumes – for magicians and actors

2) Branded

You can have any piece of clothing that you like to wear with your brand and logo on and that counts as uniform.

So, if you own your own business whether it is LTD or sole trader and it is suitable to brand up then do so.

Thank you for reading this weeks blog – W is for Workwear, see you next week.
